Cattleya briegeri (Blumensch. ex Pabst) van den Berg & M.W. Chase

Synonyms:
Basionym: Laelia briegeri Blumensch. ex Pabst
Hoffmannseggella briegeri (Blumensch. ex Pabst) V. P. Castro & Chiron
Sophronitis briegeri (Blumensch. ex Pabst) van den Berg & M.W. Chase

Species published in 1960.
It occurs in the state of Minas Gerais, between 800 and 1000m of altitude, according to Francisco Miranda. Its size varies from 17 to 20cm and its floral stem reaches 27cm carrying 3 to 5 flowers.
The inclusion of this plant in the EN category - Endangered - was justified by the CNCFlora project (National Center for the Conservation of Flora), on 26.06.2012, by Pablo Viany Prieto as it is a very ornamental species with restricted distribution, with suspicion that there is a decline in habitat quality due to severe fires, urban expansion, tourism and agricultural activities and also due to indiscriminate harvesting.
