CARMEN FIDALGO

Carmen Sylvia Zocchio Fidalgo was born in São Paulo (1941), graduated in Fine Arts from Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, FAAP, São Paulo(1976).
She attended the studio of plastic artists Colette Pujol and Durval Pereira in São Paulo, working in oil and pastel. She worked as a botanical illustrator at the São Paulo Institute of Botany for 30 years, (1964 to 1995) where she developed works mainly in ink, aimed at scientific research.
She was head of the Botanical Illustration Section (1969 to 1995). Through the illustrator Margaret Mee, she had her first contacts with botanical watercolor at the Instituto de Botânica (1963-1965) and from there, she became the curator of the works of this illustrator.
Since 1995 she has been acting as a “free-lancer” in botanical watercolors as well as for a time offered classes in her atelier.
She is present in numerous group exhibitions. The São Paulo Association of Fine Arts (1964 and 1967) and the São Paulo Salão de Belas Artes (1964 and 1966) with oil and pastel paintings with varied themes, the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pennsylvania, USA,( 1972 and 1977) and Mysterious Nature of Fungi (2015) as well as that of the Hunterdon Art Center, New Jersey, USA (1977) . 1st. Biennial of Aquarela Brasileira in Portugal (2006), GNWP (Global Network Watercolor Paints), Shanghai (2014), and Expomundial Brasi l- Contemporary Botanical Art, Curitiba (2018).
